"The Car" is the seventh studio album by English rock band Arctic Monkeys, released on October 21, 2022, by Domino Recording Company. The album's tracks were primarily penned by frontman Alex Turner at his homes in Los Angeles and Paris. It was produced across Suffolk, Paris, and London by James Ford, a frequent Arctic Monkeys collaborator, with contributions from guest musicians Tom Rowley, Loren Humphrey, and Tyler Parkford. Arrangements were handled by Bridget Samuels, Ford, and Turner. The album cover, featuring a white Toyota Camry in an empty parking garage on a Los Angeles rooftop, was photographed by drummer Matt Helders. The title reflects the cover image and the numerous vehicular references in the lyrics.
 
Upon its release, "The Car" received critical acclaim. Critics praised the band's artistic evolution, the album's production, and Turner's lyrics, though some noted that the band's shift from their earlier indie rock sound might continue to polarize longtime fans. The album was nominated for the 2023 Ivor Novello Awards and the 2024 Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album and was shortlisted for the 2023 Mercury Prize. The single "There'd Better Be a Mirrorball" was nominated for Best Alternative Music Performance at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards. Additionally, the single "Body Paint" and the song "Sculptures of Anything Goes" were nominated for Best Alternative Music Performance and Best Rock Performance, respectively, at the 66th edition.
 
"The Car" became Arctic Monkeys' first album not to reach the top of the UK Albums Chart, debuting at number two in ten territories, including the UK, where Taylor Swift's "Midnights" held the top spot. It was the third best-selling vinyl record and the best-selling cassette of 2022 in the UK. The album was promoted through singles such as "There'd Better Be a Mirrorball," "Body Paint," and "I Ain't Quite Where I Think I Am," all of which peaked within the top 25 on the UK Singles Chart, as well as through a global tour and multiple television appearances.
