Billie Eilish's debut studio album, "When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?", emerged on March 29, 2019, under Darkroom and Interscope Records in the US and Polydor Records in the UK. At just 17 years old, Eilish collaborated closely with her brother, Finneas O'Connell, who produced the album from their modest bedroom studio in Highland Park, Los Angeles.
Musically diverse, the album traverses pop, electropop, avant-pop, and art pop realms, drawing additional influences from hip hop and industrial music.
Market buzz surrounded the release of seven singles, with four achieving multi-platinum certifications in the US—"You Should See Me in a Crown," "When the Party's Over," "Bury a Friend," and the global sensation "Bad Guy." Eilish supported the album with multiple tours, including the When We All Fall Asleep Tour and the Where Do We Go? World Tour. The album soared to the top of charts worldwide in its debut week, swiftly becoming a commercial phenomenon. By June 2019, it had sold over 1.3 million copies in the US.
The album swept the 2020 Grammy Awards, earning top honors, including Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. Its standout track, "Bad Guy," clinched Record of the Year and Song of the Year, with Finneas earning recognition as Producer of the Year, Non-Classical. Rolling Stone cemented its legacy by ranking it at 397 on their prestigious list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
