"Olé Coltrane," an album by the legendary jazz musician John Coltrane, made its debut in November 1961 under Atlantic Records. Recorded at A&R Studios in New York City, this album marked the culmination of Coltrane's Atlantic discography under his own guidance.
The centerpiece of the album is the modal jazz vamp "Olé," which draws inspiration from the Spanish folk song "El Vito" (later adapted into "El Quinto Regimiento" from the Spanish Civil War, famously championed by Pete Seeger). Coltrane's soprano saxophone work on this track evokes echoes of his acclaimed rendition of "My Favorite Things," released earlier in 1961.
