"Transformer" is the acclaimed second solo studio album by American rock artist Lou Reed, released on November 8, 1972, under RCA Records. The album, produced by David Bowie and Mick Ronson, is a seminal work of the glam rock genre and features Reed’s most successful single, "Walk on the Wild Side." The track explores bold and controversial themes such as sexual orientation, gender identity, prostitution, and drug use.
Following the lackluster reception of Reed’s self-titled debut solo album, Bowie, who had been a fan of Reed’s previous band the Velvet Underground, used his fame to help launch Reed’s solo career. Transformer was instrumental in establishing Reed as a major artist in the rock music scene.
