"Screamadelica" is the third studio album by the Scottish rock band Primal Scream. Initially hitting shelves on 23 September 1991 in the United Kingdom under Creation Records and later on 8 October 1991 in the United States via Sire Records, the album signaled a significant departure from the band's earlier indie rock sound. Instead, it embraced the burgeoning house music scene and its associated substances like LSD and MDMA.
The album's production underwent a transformation under the guidance of acid house DJ Andrew Weatherall and engineer Hugo Nicolson. They reworked the band's original recordings into dance-centric tracks, infusing "Screamadelica" with a fresh, pulsating energy.
Featuring vocals from Manchester-born singer Denise Johnson, "Screamadelica" marked Primal Scream's breakthrough into commercial success, climbing to number eight on the UK Albums Chart upon its debut. Critics showered the album with praise, often ranking it among the top albums of the 1990s in various polls. Notably, it clinched the inaugural Mercury Music Prize in 1992 and has since garnered sales exceeding three million copies worldwide.
