"Smash Hits" is a compilation album showcasing the musical prowess of the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Initially released by Track Records on April 12, 1968, in the UK, the album encapsulated all four of the group's singles, comprising both A and B sides, released up to that point. Additionally, it featured four supplementary tracks from the UK edition of "Are You Experienced."
 
While Track Records introduced the album to the UK, Reprise Records delayed its release in the US until July 30, 1969, with a modified tracklist. This American edition incorporated two selections from "Electric Ladyland" alongside three tracks from the UK version of "Are You Experienced," previously unavailable in the US. Notably, it included a stereo rendition of "Red House," stemming from an alternate take distinct from the original mono album version.
