"My Generation" is the debut studio album by the English rock band The Who, released on December 3, 1965, by Brunswick Records in the United Kingdom and Festival Records in Australia. In the United States, it was released on April 25, 1966, by Decca Records under the title "The Who Sings My Generation", featuring a different cover and a slightly altered track listing.
The album was recorded shortly after The Who's first singles began to chart. According to the Deluxe Edition booklet, the band later dismissed the album as a rushed effort that did not fully capture their live performance at the time. Although it did not achieve the commercial success of their later albums, peaking at No. 5 on the UK charts and failing to chart in the US, critics have since recognized it as one of the greatest rock albums of all time. Its hard-edged sound was unusual for its era and is seen as a precursor to various hard rock genres such as punk and heavy metal.
In June 2009, the 1966 US version of the album, "The Who Sings My Generation", was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant."
