Shoot Out at the Fantasy Factory is the sixth studio album by English rock band Traffic, released in 1973. Following their 1971 album The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys, it features five tracks. Despite receiving less favorable reviews than its predecessor, Shoot Out reached number six on the Billboard Pop Albums chart, one position higher than The Low Spark had achieved in 1972. Similar to its predecessor, the original LP jacket of Shoot Out had its top right and bottom left corners clipped.
Recorded with four members of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section—bassist David Hood, drummer Roger Hawkins, keyboardist Barry Beckett, and guitarist Jimmy Johnson—the album features Hood and Hawkins on all tracks, listed as members of Traffic on the album sleeve. Beckett and Johnson appear only on the track "Tragic Magic." Hood, Hawkins, and Beckett joined Traffic on tour, as documented in the subsequent On the Road album.
Rolling Stone's review was mixed, noting that while most songs are too even-tempered and uniform in structure and tone, "Evening Blue" and "(Sometimes I Feel So) Uninspired" stand out as highlights. They concluded that the album "embodies the inconsistencies that beset the band as well as the high points that have kept Traffic moving."
