The Unforgettable Fire is the fourth studio album by Irish rock band U2, produced by Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois, and released on October 1, 1984, by Island Records. Seeking to explore a new musical direction after the harder-hitting rock of their previous album, War (1983), the band enlisted Eno and Lanois to help them experiment with a more ambient sound. This shift marked the band's most dramatic stylistic change to date. The album's title references "The Unforgettable Fire," an art exhibit about the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.
The Unforgettable Fire received generally favorable reviews from critics and produced U2's biggest hit at the time, "Pride (In the Name of Love)," along with the live favorite "Bad." A 25th-anniversary edition of the album was released in October 2009.
